Fly fish the Deschutes River for surface striking Steelhead! Deschutes River steelhead usually start arriving in fishable numbers in mid-July and run until the end of the season in December. The best "primetime" to take Deschutes Steelhead on a floating line is from late August to October, with fishing available through November.

These unique steelhead are well known for their smashing surface strikes and long line ripping runs. To increase your chances of success when fishing for steelhead on the Deschutes River you try to cover as much water as possible. For this reason Brian offers Single-Day Steelhead Trips that are a full day of guiding and fishing, from sun up, 'til sun down. To take full advantage and maximize the short season and to increase your chances of landing a Deschutes Steelhead, we recommend our camping trips. With Multi-Day Trips, we live, eat and breathe steelhead fishing. During our Multi-Day Camp Trips, we cover up to 35 miles of river, fishing every inch of steelhead water from Macks Canyon to the mouth - This alone will increase your chances of catching a Deschutes Steelhead.

The Deschutes River truly offers some of the best surface steelhead fishing opportunities in the U.S.  To book a trip with Brian or for pricing information, visit his website.

The  Deschutes River offers year-round wild trout and steelhead angling. Brian fishes the lower 100 miles from Pelton Dam to the mouth, where it flows into the Columbia River. To uphold the Blue Ribbon fishing, this section of the river is managed for CATCH & RELEASE angling, with only barbless hooks allowed. Brian provides transportation on the river in his 17' Willie drift boat. Regulations on the river prohibit fishing from any floating devise, all angling is done by wading.

The Deschutes River is home to the native Redside Trout. This particular Rainbow Trout is only found on the Deschutes River and can be identified by the distinct red stripe down its side. The Redside's native status allows them to adapt to the strength, diversity and structure of the Deschutes River, providing a unique angling opportunity. Redside Trout average from 14 - 18 inches, with the occasional fish over 20 inches.

The nature of the wild "Redside" Trout, blended with the river's diversity produces a memorable and worthwhile angling opportunity. A day on the river with Brian is also a fantastic learning experience. Brian is a well known fly designer and his patterns have been vetted on these native Redsides. His understanding of the river and the aquatic life that resides there is only a small part of the knowledge he shares. He is also a darn good camp chef.
